I wanted to make a song with a swing feel. I also wanted to create parts that worked together in a type of call and response. Something told me that the Cardinal was the right bird for this track. "Sins of the Cardinals" was obviously a play on words. When I researched cardinals, I found out that they often engage in a type of battle with "ghost cardinals", which are their own reflections. You can hear that in the intro when the main guitar is panned to one side and then answered by a second guitar with ghostly reverb, panned to the other side. Then they clash in an evil, sinful battle.
